Google is improving its search service, introducing visual and voice input modes and advanced AI to enhance the user experience. This innovation represents a paradigm shift in interaction with online information.

Key points:

  •  Google integrates visual and voice input into search, expanding the use of Google Lens.
  •  AI rearranges search results for more intuitive navigation.
  •  New Lens features include search by video and a focus on shopping.
  •  AI overviews provide direct links to reliable sources, improving information attribution.

Google recently announced major developments in its search engine, focusing on visual and voice input modes to make users’ interaction with the web more immediate and intuitive. With the evolution of Google Lens, an app that allows users to search through images, users can now point their device’s camera at objects or scenes and get real-time information. This tool, which was launched in 2017 and has evolved over the years, now stands as a complement to traditional text queries, contributing to an exponential increase in visual searches, especially among young adults. In addition to this, Google has introduced the ability to use voice input in conjunction with Lens, allowing users to ask questions related to captured images, which further amplifies the interactivity of search.

In parallel, Google implemented machine learning algorithms to restructure the display of search results. This new layout mode initially focuses on queries related to meals and recipes, offering a more fluid and personalized presentation capable of integrating various content formats and different websites. According to statements by Liz Reid, VP and head of Google Search, the adoption of this approach has proven to increase the usefulness of search pages for users while promoting greater variety in the content displayed. AI Overviews, which provide instant summaries of results, have been enhanced with links to external sources, thereby increasing the transparency and credibility of the information presented. Although these overviews cannot be turned off, they represent an attempt to improve the accuracy of the information, despite Google’s admission about the possibility of errors.

In addition to these new features, Lens has expanded its capabilities, now able to analyze videos as well, allowing users to search for information on moving objects. This feature is particularly useful in a shopping context, as it offers details on prices, reviews, and product availability in real time. Although searches made through Lens are not saved by default, users have the option of maintaining a visual search history.

With these innovations, Google continues to push the boundaries of digital interaction, marking a significant step toward more intuitive and accessible search.
