ChatGPT as a personal trainer?
DukeRem23 January 2023
What about using ChatGPT as a personal trainer? That's what my friend F. did, so I tried doing the same. My prompt: "Please suggest a bodybuilding program for a beginner, along with the correct nutrition for it, referring to a male in his 30s". That's what chatGPT suggested: A beginner bodybuilding program for a male in his 30s should focus on compound exercises such as the bench press, deadlift, squat, and rows. These exercises work multiple muscle groups at once, which is important for beginners who want to build overall strength and muscle mass. Here is a sample program that can be done 3 times per week: Monday: Bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Deadlifts: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Pull-ups: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Wednesday: Squats: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Rows: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Shoulder press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Friday: Deadlifts: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Pull-ups: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Standing calf raises: 3 sets of 12-15 reps As for nutrition, a calorie surplus is necessary for muscle growth, so the goal should be to consume more calories than you burn. A good starting point is to aim for 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, and to include a variety of healthy fats and carbohydrates in your diet. In addition, it's essential to stay hydrated, and to avoid processed foods, sugary drinks and excessive alcohol. It's also important to consult a doctor before starting any new fitness program or making significant changes to your diet. While I am not an expert to assess the actual quality of the suggestion, I can certainly say that its clarity and precision are remarkable. Furthermore, I particularly appreciated the final advice (which I obviously make my own, should anyone wish to follow the programme described here, for which we clearly take no responsibility whatsoever). Even more interesting, is when you want to get more in deep on a specific muscle or body part. Like, for instance: "Please suggest a bodybuilding program for a beginner to increase strength and bulk of his chest (again for a male in his 30s)". Here is the new suggestion: A beginner bodybuilding program to increase the strength and bulk of the chest for a male in his 30s could include the following exercises: Monday: Barbell bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Incline barbell bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Dumbbell flyes: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Push-ups: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Wednesday: Barbell bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Decline barbell bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Dumbbell pullovers: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Dips: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Friday: Barbell bench press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Dumbbell press: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Cable cross-overs: 3 sets of 8-12 reps Push-ups: 3 sets of 8-12 reps It's important to note that it's good to vary exercises as well as the angle of the bench/incline/decline for better muscle activation and also to avoid overusing certain muscle groups It's also important to focus on proper form and technique and to gradually increase weight as you become stronger. Remember to also focus on your nutrition, making sure you're consuming enough protein, carbohydrates and healthy fats to support muscle growth. It's also worth noting that each person is different and you should listen to your body and adjust your training program accordingly. If you have any health conditions or injuries, consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Again, while I can't judge the quality of the content, I can't help but notice the precision and detail of the programme, as well as the outline advice (e.g. bench press incline, increasing weight with time and attention to technique, aspects that may seem trivial to an experienced person, but are certainly crucial for a beginner)
