AI-POWERED VENDING MACHINES SELL BULLETS IN GROCERY STORES

In recent days, the U.S. company American Rounds has sparked widespread debate with the introduction of ammunition vending machines in Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas. These innovative vending machines, placed in 24-hour supermarkets and grocery stores, use artificial intelligence to verify the age and identity of shoppers through ID scanning and facial recognition.

The advanced technology behind these dispensers ensures that only legal shoppers can access the products. However, the initiative has already met with resistance. The city council in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, ordered the removal of one of these dispensers from a local supermarket, citing concerns about the legality and safety of selling ammunition in a grocery store setting

American Rounds defends its initiative by stating that the dispensaries comply with federal and state regulations, including Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) regulations. Despite this, some concerns relate to the possibility of hacking into the verification systems and the overall security of the system.

Currently, American Rounds distributors are operating in six different locations, with plans to expand into other states where hunting is popular, such as Louisiana and Colorado. The combination of technological innovation and accessibility continues to make this project a hot topic for supporters and critics alike, underscoring the importance of balancing convenience with safety and legality.
