A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE : SPIELBERG’S FUTURISTIC FABLE

In 2001, Steven Spielberg gave us " A.I. Artificial Intelligence," a work that is the fruit of a unique cinematic legacy, born from the vision of Stanley Kubrick and blossomed under the expert hand of director Spielberg.

The film is a melancholy and heartbreaking journey through a future world where love and humanity are intertwined with technology and Artificial Intelligence.

The main character, David is an android with childlike features designed to feel love. Adopted by a family whose son is in a coma, David is soon abandoned when the boy wakes up. This act of abandonment is the first of many moments that turn David’s life into a modern, dystopian version of the Pinocchio fairy tale.

In this cold and unforgiving world, David finds himself wandering, similar to a castaway in an ocean of wires and circuits, searching for meaning and a place to belong. His only hope is to become a "Real Child" to win back the lost love of his human adoptive parents. But unlike the wooden puppet, David is made of metal and microchips, and his journey is marked by a painful confrontation with his own nature and the limits of humanity.

Spielberg, with his narrative mastery, blends the classic fairy tale structure with a fascinating and disturbing futuristic version. The world he presents to us is as wondrous as it is cruel, a glittering landscape of technological innovation that hides a cold and indifferent heart.

Neon lights and hyper-technological cities serve as the backdrop for a story steeped in deep and universal emotions.

" A.I. Artificial Intelligence" is not just a film about technology or the future; it is also a meditation on the nature of love and sacrifice, a reflection on what it means to be human in an age when the line between man and machine is increasingly thin.

David, with his desperate search for belonging and love, becomes a tragic and powerful symbol of our eternal search for identity and connection.

Spielberg succeeds in transforming a science-fiction idea into a profoundly human story, giving audiences a film that touches deep emotional chords and leaves an indelible mark on viewers’ hearts.

This film is a visual poem, a tale that invites us to look beyond appearance and reflect on our own lives and relationships in an ever-changing world.
