MUSK DROPS LAWSUIT AGAINST OPENAI

Elon Musk, co-founder of OpenAI, has decided to drop the breach of contract lawsuit he had filed against the company and its CEO, Sam Altman.

In his complaint, Musk alleged that OpenAI had deviated from its original mission of developing artificial intelligence for the good of humanity, further accusing it of breaking an agreement requiring it to maintain the organization as a nonprofit entity and open source technology.

However, some experts have pointed out several problems with Musk’s lawsuit :

- Absence of a formal contract : Despite his claims, Musk could not prove the existence of a legally binding agreement between him and OpenAI.

His allegations were based on an informal understanding deducible from some emails.

- Unsubstantiated allegations : OpenAI strongly rejected Musk’s allegations, claiming that the billionaire’s real goal was to gain total control of the Company through a merger with Tesla.

Musk’s decision to withdraw the lawsuit came just days before a hearing in which the judge was to consider OpenAI’s request to dismiss the case.

Despite this step back, tensions between Musk and OpenAI remain high.

Last year, Musk founded his own AI company called “ xAI,” which launched the chatbot Grok AI.

The startup has raised substantial funding to develop its AI system, fueling suspicions that Musk is trying to compete directly with OpenAI.

In addition, Musk has openly criticized the partnership between Apple and OpenAI.

During the WWDC 2024 Opening Keynote, Musk issued a series of tweets critical of this partnership, going so far as to threaten to ban the use of Apple devices in his companies if ChatGPT is integrated system-wide in iOS 18.
