HOW TO OBJECT TO META’S USE OF DATA FOR AI.
Meta has introduced a new privacy policy that will go into effect June 26, allowing the use of photos, posts, videos and other public data to improve its AI models.
Facebook and Instagram users, as well as nonusers whose information may be in content shared on these platforms, can object to this use.
Meta specifies that it will use publicly available online data and licensed information, including posts, photos, and captions shared about its products and services; content from private messages between friends and family, however, will not be used for AI training.
Meta may collect personal information from public sources, such as blog posts, which could include names and contact information.
Even those who do not use Facebook or Instagram therefore may be affected, as information about them could be present in content shared by other users.
Meta invests enormous resources in AI to develop and improve features in its products, such as chatbots, image creation tools and ad campaigns, as well as support researchers and developers through an open platform.
The goal is to create innovative experiences that help people solve complex problems, plan activities and improve various aspects of daily life.
According to the GDPR, Meta justifies the use of this data based on " legitimate interest."
However, users have the right to challenge this use and object using a form available on Meta’s privacy policy page.
The form should state your country, email, and explain the impact this data processing may have on you.
Meta is not obligated to exclude user data, but often accommodates such requests.
