MORE AND MORE HUMAN-LIKE ROBOTS : AI REVOLUTIONIZES SOCIAL ROBOTICS.

Robots are becoming more and more like humans, thanks to advances in Artificial Intelligence that allow us to interact with them as if they were real.

The robotics field is continuously expanding, finding applications in various social fields.

Robots have been introduced in schools to support teachers, in hospitals to assist patients, and in children’s entertainment in the form of robot dogs.

However, androids, or human-looking robots, are enjoying particular success.

A recent meeting organized by the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva brought together 60 robots and over a thousand people to discuss the role of AI in achieving the UN development goals.

During this event, 9 robots participated in a press conference answering various questions.

Among them, Sophia, built by Hanson Robotics, stated that robotic leaders could be more effective than humans because they are unbiased and capable of processing large amounts of data.

ChaptGPT represents a significant evolution in AI, allowing anyone to use it and understand its potential.

Robotics is an area where this technology has wide applications, facilitating interaction with robots through natural language.

Compared to previous generation robots, the new automatons offer more nuanced responses and greater engagement in conversations.

However, despite these advances, robots still lack awareness of their surroundings and cannot understand nonverbal cues such as smiles or facial expressions, which are fundamental to human communication.

In Italy, research in the field of robotics is at a very advanced level, with centers of excellence such as the " Enrico Piaggio" Research Center at the University of Pisa, the Institute of Technology in Genoa, and the group of roboticists at the Federico II University in Naples.

Particularly relevant is iCub, developed by the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa,a robot the size of a 4-year-old child, equipped with artificial skin that enables it to sense and react to touch.

iCub is currently the most widely used humanoid robot in the world.
