The European AI bill
Soon the #AI world will face its first major #regulatory hurdle,
AI Act: The Ai Act is a bill proposed by the European Commission to harmonize the regulatory framework on Artificial Intelligence in the EU and promote its safe and ethical use.
It introduces a classification of risk associated with AI use according to four levels: minimal, limited, high, and unacceptable.
Strict requirements on transparency, performance, robustness and security are proposed for high-risk systems.
The Ai Act would prohibit the use of AI-based mass surveillance systems and social scoring of citizens. It would also prohibit discriminatory "profiling" practices based on biometric or genetic data.
Member states would have to appoint national supervisory authorities to oversee enforcement and impose penalties for violations.
If passed, the Ai Act will make the EU at the forefront of setting ethical and regulatory standards for the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence, balancing innovation and the protection of fundamental rights.
Needless to say, we incredibly need such legislation to protect us from possible problems caused by a wonderful but incredibly dangerous technology like AI. Upon its release, many of the giants in the AI world will have to adapt their products to the legislation, and this will benefit us as consumers, one only has to wonder, will the giants be ready for such restrictions?
