Grammarly has acquired Superhuman to bolster its AI productivity platform, aiming to integrate intelligent agents across email, calendar, and tasks. The deal includes Superhuman executives and teams, but did not disclose financial figures.
Key Points:
- Email strategy focused: Grammarly’s primary user base
- Pre-acquisition valuation: $825M with annual revenue of ~$35M
- More than 100 employees and CEO Rahul Vohra to join Grammarly
- Plan to expand AI agents to calendar, tasks, and collaboration
Grammarly, which has more than 40 million daily users and more than $700 million in revenue, announced the deal in an effort to evolve from a simple checker to an AI productivity platform, leveraging its Superhuman email client, which is known to save users up to four hours a week and increase response speed by 72%. Superhuman, founded by Rahul Vohra, Vivek Sodera, and Conrad Irwin, has raised more than $114 million from investors including a16z, IVP, and Tiger Global; the decision to merge with Grammarly, according to Vohra, was motivated by the ability to equip itself with broader resources to develop not only email functionality, but also integrated calendar and task tools. Grammarly, which recently raised a $1 billion funding line through General Catalyst in May, announced that Vohra and more than 100 employees will join the company while keeping the Superhuman brand operational. The company now plans to add specialized AI agents to manage address books, personalized email writing, and orchestrate collaborative environments between tools, targeting scenarios where multiple agents work simultaneously to support workflow. The move follows the acquisition of collaboration platform Coda last quarter, and signals a desire to compete with big tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and Salesforce in the AI-empowered workplace market. The deal, while not financially detailed, strengthens Grammarly’s position in the industry and significantly expands its technology and human base.
The integration of Grammarly and Superhuman marks a strategic step toward creating an autonomous AI platform for managing and optimizing professional communications.
