The new Pope Leo XIV, aka Robert Francis Prevost, relaunches the social doctrine of Leo XIII to face the transformations due to the AI, attracting attention to dignity, work and ethical responsibility in a digital era.

Key points:

  • Choice of the evocative name of the social magisterium (Rerum Novarum)
  • Ai: challenge and opportunity, not just tool
  • Appeal to a digital humanism based on work, justice and solidarity
  • Reference to tradition, moral responsibility and centrality of the person

Robert Francis Prevost, originally from Chicago and animator of missionary experiences in Peru, chose the name Leonexiv to suggest a spiritual legacy rooted in the social tradition of the Church, but aimed at contemporary emergencies. In the Synod classroom, a few days after its election on May 8, 2025, the Neosanto Father said that the ecclesial community has a "casket" of teachings - legacy of Leo XIII - also useful today for the challenges posed by the advance of AI, the protection of work and the respect of human dignity.

By underlining the importance not only of technological progress, but of a "new digital humanism", Leonexiv has identified in technology a potentially transformative force, capable of generating development or cultural and anthropological disintegration. With the expression "other industrial revolution", he wanted to highlight that current changes, although radical such as those of the nineteenth century, must be governed by ethical principles, not left to the logic of the market or to the algorithm.

His pontificate - defined by several "digital work" newspapers - places the condition of the worker in the "algorithmic economy" at the center, where the risk of precariousness, inhumanization and social injustice is real. Prevost, with training in mathematics and philosophy and a long pastoral experience, recalls both the magisterium of Benedict XVI, Paul VI and Francesco and the social doctrine as a compass to combat nihilism and the value of the secular matrix.

Gennaro Malgieri, historian and journalist, sees in this choice a reference to the synthesis between tradition and innovation: a "missionary" papacy - strengthened for twelve years lived in Peru - which aspires to strengthen the unity of the Church without sagging towards a "rally" secularism. Speaking of continuity with Ratzinger and Bergoglio, Malgieri describes Prevost as a bridge between past and future.

On the Italian national front, the magazine "Intervention in the company" dedicates significant reflections: Senator Riccardo Pedrizzi examines the balance between innovation, humanism and faith, recalling the need to resist the nihilistic aggression that denies Christian foundations; Former president of the Senate Domenico Fisichella investigates the mutations of the state, from liberal model to forms of degenerative statism; Minister Casellati denounces the opacity and excess regulatory while Michele Vietti illustrates the judicial reforms. The denatality and strengthening of the family fabric, central issues for Minister Roccella, find space next to the articles of Paola Binetti and Stefania Brancaccio on female issues.

The international section collects the analysis of Minister Tajani for Farnesina, the geopolitical assessments of the former Senator Mantica on the Trump phenomenon, and first -rate economic -financial insights. The magazine also welcomes cultural contributions: a memory of the boxer Nino Benvenuti, recently disappeared, the one on the great Mina and a tribute to the current and intense figure of Oriana Fallaci.

An appeal to ethical and spiritual awareness for the Church to face the challenges of the future with intelligence and heart.
