Apple Boosts AI on iPhone, Watch, and Mac: Now It’s Truly Personal
Live translations, tailored images, smart coaching, and an on-device LLM: Apple Intelligence becomes central, always private, and integrated into every experience

Apple powers Apple Intelligence on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and VisionPro: live translation, visual intelligence, creativity with Genmoji and Image Playground, and for the first time on-device access to the private, offline LLM model for developers.

Key Points:

  • Live translation built into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone, with models that run exclusively on the device.
  • Workout Buddy on Apple Watch: Voice-activated AI coach using personal fitness data and Fitness+, available with watchOS 26.
  • Foundation Models framework: ~3B parameter on-device model accessible to developers with just a few lines of Swift.
  • Updates to Genmoji and Image Playground, and visual intelligence that enables search and action on screen content.

Apple unveiled new Apple Intelligence features at WWDC 2025, available in beta now and available to users with supported devices this fall. The focus is on privacy: all on-device models process data directly on devices, and when extra power is needed, Apple’s Private Cloud Compute is used, without ever storing or sending sensitive data to Apple.

A major new feature is Live Translation, which translates messages in real time as they are written, displays subtitles in FaceTime calls, and speaks translations during phone calls, keeping the conversation private thanks to local processing. Visual intelligence has also been improved, allowing you to highlight objects on the screen to search for similar products online or add events to your calendar directly from a displayed content.

In the field of creativity, Genmoji now allows you to combine emojis and descriptions to create new custom icons, while Image Playground offers additional styles (oil, vector) and advanced editing capabilities via ChatGPT, always on device and with full user control.

For developers, Apple has made available the Foundation Models framework, which allows you to use an on-device LLM model (~3 billion parameters) in Swift with just three lines of code. The model is optimized for guided generation, entity extraction, summarization, short dialogues, and more, but not for general knowledge. It also supports tool calling, custom adapters, and includes built-in security measures.

Shortcuts has been enhanced with new intelligent tools that integrate text generation, image creation, and access to the Apple Intelligence model — on-device or via a private cloud — while providing privacy and advanced functionality within shortcuts.

Additionally, watchOS26 introduces Workout Buddy, a motivational coach on Apple Watch that analyzes data such as pace, heart rate, Activity rings, and provides personalized voice feedback from Fitness+ trainers. Requires a nearby iPhone and Bluetooth headphones; will be available in English with some workout types (run, bike, HIIT, etc.)

Finally, there are other improvements such as: intelligent suggestions in Mail, Messages, and Wallet; automatic polls in chat; custom backgrounds; image cleanup, quick replies, summaries, and enhanced Siri functionality with both local intelligence and ChatGPT.

These innovations demonstrate how Apple continues to integrate advanced AI – private, offline, user-centric – into everyday areas, from workouts to communications, from creative apps to developer experiences.
