Earth AI AI Improves Mineral Exploration | How does generative ai work | What is generative ai vs ai examples | Generative ai in finance and accounting | Turtles AI
Earth AI uses AI to identify previously overlooked mineral deposits, accelerating the exploration process and reducing costs. It recently raised $20 million in a Series B funding round to enhance its technologies and expand operations.
Key Points:
- Earth AI uses AI to identify critical metal deposits.
- Discovered new deposits in Australia that were previously overlooked.
- Raised $20 million to further develop its technologies.
- Its operating model integrates predictive software and proprietary drilling equipment.
Earth AI, an emerging mineral exploration startup, is redefining traditional methodologies through the implementation of advanced AI techniques. Founded by Roman Teslyuk, the company recently discovered promising deposits of copper, cobalt, and gold in the Northern Territory, as well as silver, molybdenum, and tin in New South Wales, regions previously overlooked by other mining companies. This innovative approach relies on analyzing vast, often untapped archives of geological data to learn from past successes and failures and make more accurate predictions about potential mineral deposits. Initially focused on developing predictive software, Earth AI encountered resistance from potential customers who were reluctant to invest in unproven technology. To overcome this challenge, the company decided to develop proprietary drilling equipment, demonstrating the effectiveness of its predictions in action. This integrated operating model attracted the attention of investors, culminating in a $20 million Series B funding round in January 2025, led by Tamarack Global and Cantos Ventures, with participation from Overmatch, Alpaca, Sparkwave Capital, and support from existing investors Y Combinator and Scrum Ventures. The funds raised will be used to enhance AI and drilling technologies, as well as expand the project portfolio to over 50 sites and increase drilling capacity to 100,000 meters, at an estimated cost of approximately $100 per meter. This approach allows Earth AI to significantly accelerate exploration times, reducing the process from decades to a few months. A tangible example of the success of this methodology is the discovery, in collaboration with Legacy Minerals, of one of the largest palladium systems in Australia, using Earth AI’s proprietary predictive technology. This discovery highlights the potential of AI to identify significant mineral deposits in previously overlooked areas.
Earth AI is thus positioning itself as a key player in the mineral exploration sector, combining technological innovation and an integrated approach to meet the growing global demand for metals for clean energy.
