C4AI Command A: The 111 billion parameter language model designed for high performance, security and versatility in multilingual enterprise applications
Editorial Team13 March 2025

C4AI Command A is an advanced language model with 111 billion parameters, designed to deliver high performance in demanding enterprise contexts. It supports 23 languages, has a context length of 256K tokens, and integrates features such as external tooling and retrieval augmented generation (RAG).

Key Points:

  • Parameters: 111 billion
  • Languages Supported: 23
  • Context Length: 256K tokens
  • Advanced Features: External Tooling and RAG

C4AI Command A represents a significant advancement in large-scale language models, with its 111 billion parameters that give it a world-class ability to understand and generate natural language. This model has been optimized to meet the needs of enterprises that require fast, secure, and high-quality AI solutions. One of the distinguishing features of C4AI Command A is its ability to support 23 different languages, including English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Dutch, Czech, Indonesian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Greek, Hindi, Hebrew and Persian. This broad language coverage makes it a versatile tool for global applications. The context length supported by the model is 256K tokens, allowing C4AI Command A to handle and analyze large texts without losing coherence or relevance. The model architecture is based on an optimized transformer, with three layers using sliding window attention (window size 4096) and relative positional encoding via RoPE, ensuring efficient local context modeling. A fourth layer uses global attention without positional embeddings, allowing unlimited token interactions across the entire sequence. The C4AI Command A was trained with supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and preference training techniques, in order to align the model’s behavior with human preferences in terms of usefulness and safety. In the context of chat features, the model is configured to respond conversationally, providing introductory statements and follow-up questions, using Markdown and LaTeX when appropriate. For specific use cases, the model’s behavior can be customized through system messages, resulting in more targeted and non-interactive responses. The C4AI Command A offers two security modes: the contextual mode, suitable for more free-form interactions with core protections, and the strict mode, which avoids sensitive topics such as violent or sexual acts and the use of profanity. One of the advanced capabilities of the model is the integration with external tools, such as APIs, databases or search engines, allowing the C4AI Command A to perform complex tasks through the use of conversational tools. Additionally, the model excels at tasks such as code generation, translation, and text summarization, demonstrating superior performance compared to other models of similar size. To ensure responsible use, C4AI Command A is released under a CC-BY-NC (non-commercial) license with an acceptable use addendum, requiring adherence to C4AI’s acceptable use policy.
