Google announced the cost of the Veo 2 video AI model: 50 cents per second, or $1,800 per hour. The price was compared to the budget of “Avengers: Endgame.” OpenAI is instead offering Sora to its premium subscribers.
Key points:
- Google Veo 2 costs 50 cents per second of generated video.
- The price has been compared to Hollywood movie production costs.
- Google’s model can create clips at least two minutes long.
- OpenAI is offering Sora to ChatGPT Pro users for $200 per month.
Google has released the price of its advanced artificial intelligence model for video generation, Veo 2, announced last December. Using the technology will cost 50 cents per second, translating into a charge of $30 per minute or $1,800 for a full hour of generated content. Jon Barron, a researcher at Google DeepMind, highlighted this figure by comparing it to the production budget of “Avengers: Endgame,” the celebrated Marvel blockbuster, which required an estimated investment of $356 million, or about $32,000 for every second of the film. However, it is not a given that users will take advantage of every second of video generated, and at the moment, Veo 2 is designed to make clips with a minimum duration of two minutes. In parallel, OpenAI has introduced its own video generation model, Sora, accessible to users through a ChatGPT Pro subscription costing $200 monthly.
These AI solutions for audiovisual content production are redefining the creative landscape, offering increasingly sophisticated and accessible tools.
