NVIDIA: Native RT Boosts for RTX 50 and New Gaming Technologies
RTX 50 GPUs redefine gaming with native ray tracing improvements and innovative technologies like DLSS 4 and Neural Rendering
Editorial Team15 January 2025

The new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards promise significant improvements in native ray tracing (RT) performance over the previous series, without the use of DLSS. With DLSS 4, the performance leap is doubled compared to previous generations. NVIDIA aims to revolutionize 4K and 1440p gaming.

Key points:

  • Native RT performance increases: Up to 30% for the RTX 5090 over the 4090, 15% for the RTX 5080, and 20% for the RTX 5070 Ti and 5070.
  • Technological innovations: Introduction of DLSS 4 with Multi-Frame Generation, Neural Rendering, and advanced technologies like RTX Fur, Hair, and Skin.
  • Gaming focus: RTX 5090 and 5080 for 4K, RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 ideal for 1440p.
  • Availability and pricing: New GPUs launching on January 30, 2025, with prices ranging from $549 to $1,999.

NVIDIA revealed key performance details about its GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs during its Editor’s Day event at CES 2025. The new series, consisting of the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070, promises a 15% to 30% improvement in native ray tracing performance, depending on the model, compared to the previous-generation RTX 40. These increases are achieved without DLSS support, demonstrating the inherent capabilities of the updated architecture.

The flagship RTX 5090 offers a 30% increase in native performance over the RTX 4090. With 32GB of GDDR7 memory and a DP 2.1 interface, it is designed to meet the needs of content creators and gamers using the latest QD-OLED displays. The RTX 5080, which follows closely behind, shows a 15% improvement over the RTX 4080, making it a competitive option in the 4K gaming segment. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 also stand out in the mainstream market, offering a 20% increase over their 40-series counterparts. The latter, with 16GB and 12GB of GDDR7 memory respectively, are positioned as excellent solutions for native 1440p gaming.

While the native increases are smaller than previous generational leaps, NVIDIA emphasizes the importance of the integrated technological innovations. DLSS 4, with its multi-frame generation technology, doubles the performance of the previous generation in supported modes, thanks to new features such as Neural Rendering and Shading. These technologies, combined with advanced effects such as RTX Fur, Hair and Skin, significantly improve the visual quality and fluidity of next-generation games.

The GeForce RTX 50 GPUs are scheduled to be available in January and February 2025. The RTX 5090 and 5080 will hit shelves on January 30, with MSRPs of $1,999 and $999, respectively. The RTX 5070 Ti and 5070 will follow in February, with MSRPs of $749 and $549. With these new graphics cards, NVIDIA aims to redefine the performance and innovation standards for gamers and creators.

New NVIDIA technologies pave the way for a future that is increasingly integrated between visual quality, performance, and sustainability.
