MS Bing adds summarizations by AI
DukeRem13 April 2023
In recent days #Microsoft has added, without explicitly stating it, #summaries of #Bing search results by its #GPT 4-based #chatbot, which we have often mentioned in previous articles. More specifically, the update includes the addition of #ChatGPT responses to #search #queries, instead of the usually featured snippets. Bing #AI chatbot will now provide answers to user queries, even suggesting to continue conversations with the chatbot itself.
These answers will include a notice that they are "summarized from", with links to all referred sites. However, this could be a deal breaker for independent content creators since Bing will be summarizing content from multiple sources and presenting it as a single, aggregate, answer. In fact, this could discourage users from clicking through to individual websites, resulting in reduced website traffic and problematic for content creators relying on ad revenue and page views.
Furthermore, there may be concerns about the accuracy of the Bing AI-powered answers, as AI generates them and may not always provide the most comprehensive information (as we noted in previous articles here on Turtle's AI).
On a side note, Microsoft is also using this AI model in the core Bing search-ranking engine, resulting in what the company claims is "the largest jump in relevance in two decades." The company claims the Bing update is designed to help users get more out of search and the web, with more accurate and relevant results.
