X-Ray Recaps is a new feature of Prime Video that leverages AI to deliver concise and focused summaries while watching TV series. Available to Fire TV users in the United States, the service will soon expand to other devices.

Key points:

  • X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create personalized plot summaries, avoiding spoilers.
  • The feature integrates with X-Ray, which already exists on Prime Video, to enrich the viewing experience.
  • The summaries are customizable and adapt to the exact moment the user is watching the content.
  • Available initially on Fire TV in the United States, access will be expanded to other devices by the end of the year.

Prime Video is introducing X-Ray Recaps, a new AI-based feature that offers its users the ability to receive immediate and relevant summaries of episodes or entire seasons of TV series. The goal is to address a common need of viewers: quick retrieval of plot information without having to start over or risk running into spoilers. This innovative feature, which complements Prime Video’s already well-known X-Ray capabilities, makes watching content more fluid, convenient and focused, solving the problem of losing the plot thread in long TV series. The technology is based on generative AI models that analyze dialogue and subtitles in videos, extracting significant moments and key details, which are then synthesized into quick, easily digestible descriptions. Not only can summaries of entire episodes or seasons be obtained, but X-Ray Recaps can also generate insights into specific plot highlights. The feature is designed to appear both in Prime Video’s details menus and in the X-Ray experience, accessible directly during content playback. The system is designed to be highly customizable, offering short summaries that fit each moment of viewing, from the first episode of a series to the part of the season you are currently watching. This ensures that the thread is never lost, even during extended breaks. Unlike other methods, such as searching for summaries online or returning to a previous point in the video, X-Ray Recaps avoids distracting the user from the viewing experience and does not run the risk of running into spoilers. The AI employed in this feature is powered by Amazon Bedrock, the AWS service that facilitates the creation of applications based on AI models, and Amazon SageMaker, which enables the training of custom models. The system integrates multiple sources, including dialogue, subtitles and video segments, to ensure accurate extraction of relevant content. Beginning with its beta release, X-Ray Recaps will initially be available to Fire TV customers in the United States, with a gradual expansion planned by the end of the year to other platforms. Access to this feature is guaranteed for Amazon MGM Studios original productions, including titles such as “Daisy Jones and the Six,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Wheel of Time” and “The Boys.” With this innovation, Prime Video seeks to improve the streaming experience by making it easier to enjoy content and supporting users who may lose the thread of the plot when viewing particularly long or complex TV series.

X-Ray Recaps fits into a broader context of improving the user experience, where personalization and convenience are at the heart of Prime Video’s innovation.
