Microsoft Corp. announced on Thursday that it has developed an AI-powered productivity tool that uses large language models (LLM) to enhance workplace productivity. Called Microsoft 365 Copilot, it combines business data and the Microsoft 365 apps to uplevel skills and unlock productivity.
Microsoft Corp. has introduced a new AI-powered productivity tool called Microsoft 365 Copilot that utilizes large language models and business data to improve workplace productivity. Copilot will work alongside Microsoft 365 customers in two ways. Firstly, it is embedded in the Microsoft 365 apps people use daily, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Secondly, it features Business Chat, which helps customers create status updates based on meetings, emails, and chat threads using natural language prompts.
The new tool aims to provide customers with an entirely new way of working. Users are always in control of their data and can decide whether to keep, modify, or discard it. With Copilot, users can be more creative in Word, more analytical in Excel, more expressive in PowerPoint, more productive in Outlook, and more collaborative in Teams.
Microsoft 365 Copilot seamlessly integrates into the apps people use every day, enabling them to stay in the flow of work and concentrate on their tasks rather than busy work. Copilot in Word writes, edits, summarizes and creates right alongside people as they work. In PowerPoint, Copilot turns ideas into designed presentations through natural language commands. In Excel, it helps users identify trends, unlock insights, or create professional-looking data visualizations in a fraction of the time. In Outlook, Copilot can help synthesize and manage the inbox, allowing users to spend more time communicating. Copilot in Teams makes meetings more productive by providing real-time summaries and action items within the context of the conversation. In Power Platform, Copilot will help developers streamline development with low-code tools with the introduction of two new capabilities within Power Apps and Power Virtual Agents. Business Chat summarizes chats, writes emails, finds key dates, and even writes plans based on project files.
Microsoft has built Microsoft 365 Copilot with its existing commitments to data security and privacy in the enterprise, grounded in AI principles, Responsible AI Standards and decades of research. Copilot’s large language models are not trained on customer content or individual prompts. Microsoft 365 Copilot is already being tested with a small group of customers, and specific pricing and licensing details will be shared soon.
