Eppo, a startup focused on testing and evaluating AI models, recently secured new funding to enhance its testing and marketing capabilities. Founded by Chetan Sharma, a former data scientist at Airbnb, Eppo stands out in the competitive market through innovative A/B testing solutions and the integration of technologies such as the “contextual bandit” system. These developments reflect a growing interest by companies in adopting AI models while seeking to optimize return on investment. However, a considerable number of business leaders still struggle to measure the effectiveness of their AI initiatives.

Key points:
- Eppo raises $28 million in a Series B round, bringing its valuation to $138 million.
- The platform stands out for its advanced testing system, such as “contextual bandit.”
- Eppo’s clients include companies such as Twitch, SurveyMonkey, and Coinbase.
- The startup’s approach promotes more sustainable and effective adoption of AI models.

California startup Eppo, founded in secret in 2022, is emerging as a key player in the field of AI model testing. The company, which already has a large portfolio of clients including Twitch, SurveyMonkey, DraftKings, and Coinbase, recently closed a Series B funding round, raising $28 million. This brought the company’s overall valuation to $138 million. Eppo co-founder Chetan Sharma believes the platform offers unique value through advanced features such as “contextual bandit,” a system that automatically identifies and optimizes variants of templates and websites, thus ensuring superior performance.

In an environment where the AI industry is evolving rapidly and companies are investing large sums in these technologies, Eppo’s platform offers a key tool for measuring and improving the effectiveness of these investments. Despite the growing interest, many companies still struggle to calculate the return on investment (ROI) of their AI-related initiatives, an issue highlighted by recent studies showing that half of industry leaders do not know how to quantify the value generated by AI projects. Eppo, which is based in San Francisco and currently employs 45 people, plans to grow to 65 employees by the end of the year. The new funds will be used to expand the company’s marketing capabilities and further improve its analytics and testing tools, aiming for an increasingly integrated and sustainable approach for companies that want to remain competitive in today’s technology landscape. The company competes in a crowded marketplace, where other players such as Split, Statsig and Optimizely are present, as well as giants such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, which also offer model evaluation and tuning tools. However, the choice of many companies to build internal teams for experimentation is proving less and less sustainable, leading many of them to turn to external solutions such as Eppo.

Eppo’s ability to provide quick and accurate answers about the value of AI models through real-time testing is an effective response to the growing need to optimize AI investments. In conclusion, Eppo’s rise in the AI model testing landscape demonstrates how the pursuit of efficiency and intelligent adoption of new technologies have become strategic priorities for companies.
