Shenzhen, China, Aug. 8, 2024 - At the AI Cockpit Innovation Experience event, Intel unveiled its first discrete graphics processing unit (dGPU), named" Intel Arc Graphics for Automotive." This innovation marks a significant step in the evolution of automotive technology, with a commercial deployment planned for 2025. The introduction of this dGPU aims to meet the growing demand for processing power in modern vehicles, making cars smarter and more personalized.

 A Flexible and Scalable Platform

Intel’s innovative dGPU integrates seamlessly with the existing portfolio of AI-enhanced software-defined vehicle (SDV) systems-on-chip (SoC). This combination offers an open, flexible, and scalable platform that enables automakers to design vehicles capable of adapting to different needs. Basic and mid-range models can benefit from the Intel SDV SoC, while high-end models can leverage the additional power of the dGPU for premium functionality.

 Advanced AI Experiences on Board

Intel illustrated a vision of an automotive future in which AI transforms driver, passenger, and vehicle interaction. The demonstration showed how AI-based voice, visual and gesture recognition can make cars more intuitive and personalized. For example, Thundersoft’s demo highlighted an advanced cockpit that supports seven high-definition screens and six cameras for interactive features. This configuration is capable of running AAA games and AI applications for mobile work simultaneously.

Personalization and Productivity

With advanced AI algorithms, automakers can offer a highly personalized driving experience. Zhipu’s AI assistant, for example, has demonstrated the ability to execute complex commands via natural language processing and answer detailed vehicle-related questions, thereby improving interaction and ride comfort. In addition, productivity and entertainment features are enhanced by immersive 4K displays and multi-screen configurations, turning the vehicle into a mobile office and entertainment center.

 Collaboration with Software Sector.

Intel launched the AI PC Accelerator program, which brings together more than 100 independent software vendors (ISVs) and offers more than 500 AI features and applications. This ecosystem immediately provides a wide range of solutions that automakers can integrate into their vehicles, accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies and improving the user experience.

 Building the Future of Automotive

Intel’s new dGPU is a key building block for a future where driving will be smarter, safer and more personalized. With increased computing power, automakers now have the opportunity to differentiate their brands and offer artificial intelligence-based experiences to their customers. Intel’s XPU strategy, together with its robust software ecosystem and optimization capabilities, lays a solid foundation for continued innovation in the automotive industry.
